This specimen retains quite a bit of gilt and has no dents or cracks. The shank is broken off, and the rmdc backmark is W.H. Smith. Excavated in Mississippi.

This coat sized button was dug in Central Virginia (North Anna River) on 5/3/15. This button shows lots of silver wash is in excellent dug condition with N C being very legible and all details prominent. As always on these dug NC's of this type, the shank is gone. This is an unusually good and solid button that will shine in any collection from a Confederate State that gave all she had.

button Ultra Rare Confederate Mississippi "SOUTHRONS" button (coat sized).
This coat sized button was made before the war by Scovill Mfg. Co. for the Mississippi "SOUTHRONS" Regiment that later became Company A of the 21st. Mississippi Infantry. The face has a significant push, as shown in the picture . The Scovill back mark is clear and easy to read, the laid down shank is present and there's a push in the back of the button, as well. This is a very rare button and will display beautifully. It was found in Tennessee about fifty years ago and is very solid overall with no issues other than as highlighted here. Great gold-green patina over all.

button Ultra Rare North Carolina "Standing Shepherd" Button (coat sized).
This two piece beauty was excavated in Goldsboro, North Carolina in 2014. The front has lots of gilt remaining. The back is plain, and the shank is intact though leaning to one side. Little is known about this button other than it is extremely scarce. Tice's NC216A1, Albert's NC15. It does have a moderate push to the front, nonetheless this is a true Confederate local and is a great artifact. The device is a coat of arms on a plain field without an inscription. It is a mirror image of NC201, with Liberty seated to the viewer's left while Plenty stands to the right. Apparently, the maker copied the design as an intaglio die without left to right reversal. 22-23mm. It does have some rim damage, that is pointed out in the picture.

This coat sized button was excavated in Cold Harbor, Virginia. The front shows good detail, and has a nice brown patina. The shank is intact, though it is pushed in a bit and loose. The back mark is a star, which means it was made by W. Wildt. Tice's NC210 and Albert's NC 8. The Nc210 category includes a series of similar, crude copies of NC210 two piece North Carolina state of arms buttons. All are of two piece convex construction and measure approximately 23mm. This information was copied from"Uniform Buttons Of The United States" written by Warren K. Tice.

This is an excavated low convex, coat sized button. The copper button with the silver wash creates a vivid contrast that seems to enhance the overall appearance. You will think this one is non dug, but it appears to have a residue consistent with having been in the ground. The condition indicates it must have been dug a long time ago, and the dented back seems to support this. The dm back mark is Young Smith & Co. New York. Albert's VA5 and Tice's Va209A2.

This 23 mm specimen is Albert's number GA 4A1 and Tice's GA 206 A1. "Constitution" is mostly legible and the words on the other ribbons is very worn. South Carolina South Carolina coat button from Cold Harbor.
This 23mm button was found at Cold Harbor, Virginia where two battles were fought over the same ground in 1862 and 1864. The face of this button has good detail with chocolate patina. Backmark shows a "Schuyler H&G New York" rmdc. (Albert's SC13).Though there is a slight push on the front and the shank is slightly bent to the side, it is truly a nice button with significant provenance.
